You Know You’re Winning At Parenting When…

your daughter says she wants to bake cookies and you can go into the other room and read a book. Or in my case, write this blog post.
My oldest has been teaching herself to cook and bake for a couple years now. At the ripe old age of 11 (almost 12), she is very trustworthy in the kitchen. She knows that when I’m not home, there is a strict no oven/stove rule.
I remember when I was in 7th grade, a girl in my class burned a bunch of her hair off cause she was cooking something on the stove when she was home alone. Not ready for that traumatic experience yet.
Especially since my daughter doesn’t pull her hair back and she continues to wear baggy sweatshirts. I’m pretty easy going when it comes to most things, but fire is where I draw the line.
For now, I’ll sit here and wait for the smell of chocolate chip cookies to come wafting into the office.
How old were your kids when you let them start baking on their own?
