Famous Last Words…

“Mom, I’m bored.”
Challenge accepted. My youngest has always had someone to play with including Mom. As we begin settling into the colder months where we are spending more time inside, this is going to be something to tackle this season of year and life.
For him, it’s not about not getting enough attention but that he has rarely had to play by himself. Today, we discussed how when we are bored, our imaginations can run wild. I’ve written articles about how I’m not the best play mate for my kids. We have different rules and want to play different things.
So he and I are working on compromise lessons as well. I will play one game with him but after that he has to get creative. There will come a time in his life where he won’t have older siblings at home to play with and I want him to know that he alone can be his best company.
I’ve always liked to be play by myself and so I have a harder time understanding why he needs other people around. But we are learning together.
How do you encourage your kids to play by themselves?
