Getting Up Early On Days Off

October 11, 2019

Isn’t ironic (cue Alanis Morrisette), don’t you think, that on days off, it seems that I get up earlier than regular school days? I want to crank out all my daily rituals before the kids get up so that I can savor the quiet time to myself.

I know that in an hour or so, the noise level will go up and thus the peace inside my head will fall by the wayside. The incessant mom, mom, mom, mom, etc, will go on for the rest of the day.

Before the sun gets up (and my kids), I am able to fly through my list unencumbered. By doing so, my day feels that much more productive, even if we spend the majority of it recuperating from the previous week and gearing up for a sports filled weekend.

I’m a check list type person and to be able to go through my list so early in the morning, I feel that sense of accomplishment all throughout my day.

I can still recall the days when I was more of a night owl than an early bird, but I’m glad for the trade and so does my attitude for the remainder of this day off.

If you get up early, do you get a ton of stuff done or bask in the peace?
