You Need To Calm Down…

September 28, 2019

There I was at the last 7 minutes of my son’s football game and it made my anxiety skyrocket. Listening to parents on the sidelines makes me want to sit in a corner by myself to watch the game. He is 9 years old and some of the parents get so worked up about plays called and seeing who can shout the loudest.

I love watching my son play football but being around all that negative energy makes my skin crawl. You know that parents’ reactions directly reflect back onto their kids. Sure, I love to see them get a win as much as the next parent, but not if my blood pressure is going to rise.

As someone who is working on control issues, this is exactly what this is. The thing is sideline parents, you can’t control the outcome of the game.

I think Taylor Swift says it best, “You need to calm down…”

What kind of sideline parent are you?
